Next Arts Director Announced

Colin Anderson, Dean of Faculty
Early in the fall, Mr. Jerry King officially informed me of his plan to retire from education at the end of this academic year. Although I was not surprised by Mr. King’s decision, I was saddened by the reality that we would be losing such an influential and impactful leader in our school community.
In light of Mr. King’s upcoming retirement, we have conducted a diligent search for the next individual to fill this role. I am excited to announce Mr. Chris Campanelli as Covenant’s new Arts Director, beginning July 7, 2025.

In October, we established a search committee that thoroughly evaluated and interviewed numerous qualified candidates from across our country.  At the end of this process, there was very strong consensus that Mr. Campanelli possessed the vision, experience, and skills necessary to build on the work Mr. King has accomplished and lead our Arts Program into a thriving new season of growth.  “Mr. Campanelli brings to the position a deeply rooted understanding and love for the Arts as connected to every other facet of human life, “ according to Mr. King.  “His innate curiosity and thoughtful ponderings have already ignited our school community in the English classroom, songwriting lab, and chapel gatherings. I look forward to seeing and hearing of the new ways he discovers to foster community-wide engagement with all of the Arts in body, mind, spirit, and relationships.”

Mr. Campanelli has been teaching eleventh grade English Literature at The Covenant School for the past six years, during which time he has also been serving as the Music Director for the Church of the Holy Cross in Crozet. He has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Virginia and a Master of Arts in Theology from the University of British Columbia, Regent College, which focused on the intersection of Theology and the Arts.

As we prepare for this important leadership transition at Covenant, we remain profoundly grateful to Mr. King and the entire Arts Department for the work they have done shaping our students and forming their understanding of the gospel through a love of the Arts.

Please join me in welcoming Chris Campanelli into his new role as the Pre-K-12 Arts Director!
