Reflecting on the Fall Athletics Season

It is hard to believe that the Fall sports season is coming to a close. What a great start to the year it has been!
Four of our Varsity teams (Field Hockey, Volleyball, Soccer, Girls Tennis), along with our JV Volleyball team, earned spots in their respective conference tournaments. Varsity Football is ranked #1 in the State and will play in the State Championship this Saturday, November 9 at the Dinwiddie Sports Complex. Our very young Varsity Cross Country team competed on November 1 at the BRAC Championships and will compete on Thursday, November 7 in the VISAA Championships at Panorama Farms. The Boys Varsity team won the BRAC Championship and the Girls were runners-up! We had 5 student-athletes place in the top 5, led by Jon Nathan Lawrence on the Boy’s side and Savannah Wood on the Girl’s.

Several of our Varsity teams are State Championship contenders this fall. Varsity Volleyball and Varsity Field Hockey both won the BRAC conference last week. Volleyball is currently ranked #1 in the State for VISAA Division 2. Kella Lemke ‘28 speaks highly of her team’s leadership from seniors Cara Hamil, Delaney Poindexter, and Maya Veselinovic. “We’ve bounced back well from injuries and have had other girls step up,” she says, “Delaney always tells us to play for the person next to you, not yourself.”

Our Middle School sports finished at the end of October. At the Middle School level, the focus is on participation and development. Members of the Middle School Boys Soccer team James Kipp ‘29 and Beckett Mathas ‘31 say “Coach Dunn was a great coach. Our favorite experience was her bringing her little nephews to games. She made Soccer fun every day at practice.” Declan Poindexter ‘30 from the Middle School Football teams says he learned from Coach Kuecker, “It’s okay to be a small fish in a big pond. We can play smarter than the other guys on the field.” They finished their season 4-1 on the year!

Our programs have also garnered attention from around the community. Check out some of the local reports on our teams and athletes below.
