Athletic Trainer - Grades 6-12

The Covenant School is a Christian Liberal Arts and Sciences Pre-K through Grade 12 private school with approximately 750 students. The Covenant School is seeking an Athletic Trainer, who is a highly qualified, multi-skilled healthcare professional, to join The Covenant School Athletic Department. The Athletic Trainer will serve a critical role in Covenant Athletics by supporting our Middle School and Upper School student-athletes with injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion and education, emergent care, examination and clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. The Athletic Trainer reports to the Athletic Director. 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO: 
  • Provide assessment, prevention, treatment, and limited strength rehabilitation and reconditioning for Covenant athletes to include physician referral 
  • Provide game and practice coverage for all home practices and games. This may sometimes include travel for away games designated by the Athletic Director 
  • Organize, administer, and record concussion baseline evaluations. This includes following industry standard guidelines for return to play. The athletic trainer will also offer support to the school nurse and academic staff regarding return-to-learn activities 
  • Collect, review, and securely file athlete physicals and medical notes 
  • Maintain an orderly and sanitary athletic training room and maintain the upkeep and cleanliness of equipment including water jugs and water bottles. Provide the Athletic Director with inventory needs one school year in advance 
  • Establish professional relationships with athletes including the requirement of being addressed by your last name 
  • Maintain daily records of treatment, injuries, and follow-up notes 
  • Must be present and prepared to speak (when necessary) at mandatory meetings
  • Maintain positive and professional relationships with our school physician, school nurse, athletic staff, parents, and athletes 
  • Provide and equip each team with a medical bag for away events. Collection, re-stocking, and storage of medical bags is necessary 
  • Annually review and share with coaching staff the emergency action plan, weather protocol, AED locations, and other sports-related health and safety procedures 
  • Possess the ability to teach athletic training related course(s) during the school day while following the academic guidelines set forth by Covenant 
  • Assist the Associate Athletic Director with Covenant Athletics social media 
  • Comply with all HIPAA confidentiality requirements 
  • Readily and daily assist the Athletic Director with additional duties that may be assigned • Maintain a safe playing environment removing any potential risks/hazards 
  • Must keep coaches and Athletic Director informed, in real time, of health or safety incidents or risks. This includes informing the Athletic Director immediately after injuries that require a doctor referral.
  • The Athletic Trainer must be highly motivated, remain calm under pressure, and have a professional demeanor at all times.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: 
  • Licensed by the state of Virginia 
  • Hold a degree from an accredited four-year college or university, preferably in Athletic Training.
  • Hold certification from BOC. Must hold and renew CPR and AED certification. First aid certification for the professional rescuer. CPR instructor certification preferred. 
  • Knowledge of and ability to use Google Suite and athletic training or related software in maintaining records. 
  • Maintain number of CEU’s per period by attending continuing education courses
  • Maintain competency with IMPACT or industry-standard level testing 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Must be able to lift at least 40 lbs 
  • Must support the school, its leadership, and its mission. 
EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION 
  • Full-time exempt employee 
    Annual salary range is $50,000-$60,000 based on experience 
  • Weekly schedules will vary based on the needs of the athletic department
