Hickory Campus Librarian (Grades 6-12)

The Covenant School, an independent Christian Liberal Arts & Sciences school in Charlottesville, Virginia, is seeking to fill a full-time, 10-month position for the Hickory Campus Librarian. Our school, which serves over 750 students from Pre-K through Grade 12, is a gospel-centered community of faith and learning, rooted in the Western Liberal Arts tradition, focused on the formation of the whole person—mind, body, and soul. Our faculty leads with an incarnational approach that seeks to equip and inspire students to live well through service to God and others.

Position Overview:

The Hickory Campus Librarian is responsible for promoting school-wide literacy through library programming and collection development, supporting teachers and students with research and literacy skills, and maintaining a friendly and supportive environment in the library that is conducive to learning. 
The Librarian also works with teachers to teach and uphold the campus-wide ethical use of information, such as plagiarism instruction, copyright, and source citations.  The candidate must have a demonstrated passion for working with adolescents, ability to connect with them, and commitment to their formation as individuals-in-process.
 
Qualifications:
  • A mature, Christian faith and an educational philosophy that is consistent with The Covenant School’s mission statement and Christian Liberal Arts & Sciences pedagogy;
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university, Master’s degree in Library Science preferred;
  • Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in a school setting;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; 
  • Willingness to collaborate with teachers across grade levels and content areas
  • Thorough understanding of professional ethics and confidentiality;
  • Strong information technology skills and an aptitude for problem-solving
  • Ability to adapt programming, lesson, and rules/routines to fit the needs of the school
  • Experience with office-based computer software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Drive/Mail/Scheduling  (Experience with Blackbaud is a plus).
