2025-2026 Upper School Visual Art Teacher (Grades 9-12)

The Covenant School, an independent Christian Liberal Arts & Sciences school in Charlottesville, Virginia, is seeking a dedicated and dynamic educator to join our Upper School arts faculty starting in the 2025-26 school year. Our school, which serves over 750 students from Pre-K through Grade 12, is a gospel-centered community of faith and learning, rooted in the Western Liberal Arts tradition, and focused on the formation of the whole person—mind, body, and soul. Our faculty leads with an incarnational approach that seeks to equip and inspire students to live well through service to God and others.

The Upper School Visual Art Teacher will teach a comprehensive visual art sequence for Grades 9-12. In addition to introducing students to a variety of skills, media, and techniques in 2, 3, and 4 dimensions, courses will include some art history and an introduction to the work of contemporary visual artists. Typical projects will reflect the multi-layered, faceted educational philosophy of Christian Liberal Arts and Sciences. The ideal candidate will be a skilled visual artist in their own right and eager to work collaboratively with colleagues in the Arts department as well as faculty in other disciplines and others in the local community. Candidates should possess a mature, Christian faith and an educational philosophy that is consistent with The Covenant School’s mission statement and Christian Liberal Arts & Sciences pedagogy. Most importantly, the candidate should be passionate about working with adolescents, able to connect with them on a personal level, and dedicated to fostering their holistic development as individuals created in the image of God.
