Big congratulations are in order to several middle and upper school band students! Earlier this semester, these students auditioned for the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association District 13 Honor Band. During a normal year, students are selected for the ensemble from each school in the district to spend a Friday and Saturday preparing a full concert.
Unfortunately, we were not able to host the concert portion this year, but students from the area were still able to compete for a spot for the 2021 Honor Band season via a virtual audition consisting of scales and a prepared excerpt.
Middle school students: Michael Rupe '25 (saxophone), Delaney Poindexter '25 (saxophone), Emilia Jones '26 (tuba) , Jack Wieler '26 (baritone), Kate Wolf '27 (trumpet), Lucy Foshay '27 (flute), Landon Johnson '25 (saxophone), Kinsley Verbrugge '25 (clarinet), Sophie Wayner '26 (clarinet), and Chris Walicek '25 (percussion).
Upper school students: Kayla Frazier '24 (flute), Matt Fittro '23 (clarinet), Micayla Rawling '23 (piccolo), and Owen Bradley '24 (tenor saxophone).
Additionally, Micayla, Owen, and Emilia all placed first in the district for their instrument.
This year marks the most Covenant students ever to win auditions into these ensembles. SPECIAL congratulations to Micayla Rawling, solo symphonic piccolo, and Owen Bradley, first symphonic tenor saxophone for also winning invitations to audition for the state-level All-Virginia Band.
