The Covenant School is pleased to announce that Mr. Jerry King has been named the new Arts Director.
King has served for the last three years as Arts Department Chair, music, art, and theatre teacher. His new role as Arts Director expands his role and allows him to oversee the arts programs and the arts curriculum at both campuses and encompass all three school divisions (Lower, Middle & Upper). “I want to see the culture of the Covenant School at all levels, Upper, Middle, and Lower, continue to move in the direction of both adults and students living and thinking creatively as a natural and normal way of life, and not as a rarefied, optional, disconnected add-on to "the real curriculum”,” said King. “ The Arts ought to be taking their place right at the heart, the nerve center of how we do education here, informing and being informed by all the other disciplines,” he added. In reference to Covenant’s strong cross-disciplinary focus in educational philosophy, he said, “Cross-disciplinary" should eventually become so deeply interwoven as to make it difficult to detect where one area ends and another begins. While still pursuing real excellence, we also aim for Covenant graduates to be sent out into this world alert, engaged, inquisitive and creatively ready to make this planet a better place, whether they ever pick up a brush, blow through a horn, sing a minor third interval or step foot on a stage again.”
King and his wife live in Charlottesville and have 6 children and 8 grandchildren.
Located in Charlottesville, VA, The Covenant School is a non-denominational, private, Christian day school for Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12.
